Every now and then, we hear a personal story that moves us. When someone overcomes significant challenges and transforms themselves, it inspires us and gives us hope.
The journey of B-Fit’s newest trainer, Beatriz Diaz (a.k.a. Cricket), is one such story.
Beatriz was an absolute beginner when she started–someone who had never exercised in her life. Even though she could barely do a bodyweight lunge, she was determined to get better.
Beatriz had two qualities that impressed us from the very beginning: her consistency and willingness to push herself. Rain or shine, Beatriz shows up to the gym. You don’t see that kind of discipline every day, especially from someone so young (20 at the time). While others get impatient with their progress, Beatriz understood that fitness is a long game. Her patience and ability to trust the process would prove to be keys to her success.
Since she started training almost 2 years ago, Beatriz has dropped 50 lbs, 10 inches from her waist, and went from 34% body fat to the teens!
Oh, and did we mention she has a heart condition? She did all this while having a congenital condition that has required her to wear a pacemaker since she was 8 years old.
There’s a lot more we can say about Beatriz’s journey, but we’d rather you read it in her own words. The rest of this article was written by Beatriz herself.
“Discipline, consistency, and mental fortitude.
That’s what this process has taught me. The fact that change doesn't come easy or fast. The fact that there is no cheat code to get from point A to point B in a few days. The fact that fitness is a relationship with myself and it all depends on me to see a change—to put effort and sacrifice and prioritize my own wants and needs. To learn that what works for you will not necessarily work for me because we're all different, and that's fine. To learn that the majority of people struggle with their self-image and that not everything is rainbows and butterflies.
And it wasn't. Before I started training, I didn't want pictures taken. I didn’t want to buy clothes because they didn't have my size. I would look in the mirror and not recognize the person staring back. I was just a shell of what I used to be; all because I let myself do so.
I stopped taking care of myself.
Now, after almost 2 years of blood, sweat, and tears and the help of an entire incredible supporting community of unstoppable human beings, there's a whole new person looking in the mirror.”
Why I Became a Trainer
“Becoming a trainer went hand and hand with how much I have changed in the past few years. A large part of how I became the person I am today is because of my trainers, and I’m extremely thankful to them.
Having someone to guide you through an entire new lifestyle change, figuring out what you want to improve and change, giving tips, making you laugh, listening to you ramble about life, giving you life advice, and figuring out what being fit means for you.
A good trainer helps you understand that there will be step backs and how to overcome them. They help you create reasonable and achievable goals that transform you into a better version of yourself.
It would be my pleasure to help another person achieve that!”
